Workshop 1: Above and Below the Waterline
The Waterline Model is an easy-to-use principle for interpreting cultural motivations in your multi-cultural workplace. You will use the model as a practical tool to discuss critical incidents.
Target audience: Decision makers, owners, managers,
supervisors, coworkers, temporary immigrant workers, first,
second and third generation workers, indigenous workers, Asian workers, ESL instructors, programmers, HR staff, community leaders, and champions
Core Skill Set:
¨ Suspending judgment to interpret cultural differences
Prerequisite:
¨ Completing the pre-workshop thoughts and experiences (time commitment 10 minutes)
¨ A minimum of 2-3 participants from each organization;
however individual champions and citizens are welcome.
Delivery style: Information exchange, participation and
interaction is encouraged.
Note: Come with an open mind and mouth to learn, explore, exchange and intercultural awareness information to bring back to your worksite.
Length: 2.5-3 hours
Date: Monday, April 11
Time to be determined based on the response from participants: 12-3 p.m. (Brown bag lunch) or 3-6 p.m. (Bring your own tea or coffee)
Location: Wetaskiwin Community Literacy Society board room
